Check out The Singing Bee in the Philippines!

THE SINGING BEE, a franchise musical game show which aired from April 2008 to February 2010 on ABS-CBN, returns on air, still on Kapamilya Network, this time with new hosts and exciting twists.

Unlike reality singing contests, The Singing Bee, will test not the contestants’ talent in singing but their knowledge of song lyrics, hence the tagline: “Di bale nang sintunado basta tama ang lyrics mo.” The Philippine version is also known for its house band called the Bandble Bee, its singers tagged as the Songbees and dancers called the Honeybees.

The new Singing Bee will air every Saturday afternoon. At stake every game is 1 Million Peso-Jackpot Prize! Five contestants will play in the elimination round called “To Bee Continued” wherein each player has to continue the song once the band & singer stop. The remaining four will play on in the next 2 rounds where the new point system will be implemented. In “Jumble Bee” Round the missing lyrics are flashed on screen but jumbled. Each player has to sing the line in its correct order using all the jumbled words. If the player is correct, he earns 2 points. The third round is “Beedeoke” where the players take turns in singing their assigned lines. This time, each player has 3 blanks or missing lyrics to fill in. Each correct answer is worth 3 points.

In the pilot episode, the 2 contestants with the highest number of points will advance to the Jackpot Round called “The Final Countdown.” Since this is the final round, there will be 7 songs that will come from 7 different categories. The round begins with “Manuhan” wherein the host gives the name of an artist and the player who buzzes first must provide any song title recorded by the given artist. If the answer is correct, the player gets to use his own “diskarte” or technique by choosing the category in which he feels knowledgeable in. Every correct answer is worth 20, 000 pesos, but if a player gets four correct answers, he wins 1 Million Pesos and returns as the defending champion!

The Hosts
Together, Roderick Paulate and Amy Perez form a formidable team with decades of collective experience behind them. Their unmistakable and unique rapport will come in handy as they host the all-new ‘Singing Bee,’ every pinoy’s favorite game/musical show. Fans and audiences can expect a wholesome repartee between these two veterans, cheering the contestants on their way to 1 million pesos!

The Songbees
The Songbees, Maki Ricafort, Yuki Ito, Jessica Reynoso, Penelope Matanguihan, Isabella Fabregas, are the resident singers of the show. They were part of the top 24 artists of the biggest singing reality show in the country, The Voice of the Philippines.

The Honeybees
dancing to the band are the honeybee, composed of 12 sexy and beautiful ladies, aged 17-21 years old and clad in yellow and black uniformed outfits. They are also the eye candies that add youthful energy and zest to every game.

The Bandble Bee
no musical show will be complete without its band. it is tantamount to producing ‘the avengers’ without ironman… or celebrate halloween without jack o’ lanterns or new year without the countdown or… you get the drift, right?

the show’s resident musical director cum conductor cum floor comedian mel villena comes back with a slightly new look but with the same vigor and enthusiasm. he brings with him his young-at-heart bandmates Joey Quirino (keyboard 2), Noel Santiago (guitar), Simon Tan (bass), Jun Austria (drums), Michael Guevarra (sax), Romy Francisco (trumpet), Ronnie Marqueses (trombone), Anna Achacoso Graham, Yosha Honasan and Gail Blanco as backup vocals. And together they are known as The Bandble Bee
